A Gentle, Positive Start to Puppy Grooming

Your puppy's early experiences can shape how they feel about grooming for years to come. At Mojo's Bath House, puppy introductions are kept calm, patient and positive, helping your young dog become familiar with handling, bathing, brushing, drying and nail care at their own pace.

When Should My Puppy First Visit the Groomer?

Most puppies can begin introductory grooming once they are around 12–16 weeks old and have followed the vaccination or health guidance given by their vet. For puppies up to six months, regular short visits every three to four weeks can help grooming become a familiar part of life before they need a full haircut.

If you are unsure when to start, speak to your vet and contact Amber with your puppy's age, breed and vaccination status.

What Happens During a Puppy Introduction?

The introduction appointment is designed around confidence rather than a perfect finish. Depending on what your puppy can comfortably manage, it includes a gentle bath, towel or blow-dry, brush-out, nail trim and plenty of calm interaction. They can explore the sights, sounds and smells of the salon without being expected to cope with a long full groom on their first visit.

Preparing at Home

A few minutes of gentle practice can make a real difference. Calmly touch your puppy's paws, nails, ears, face, tail and legs, rewarding relaxed behaviour with praise or a suitable treat. Introduce brushing little and often, paying particular attention to areas that tangle easily, such as behind the ears, under the collar and around the legs.

Keep practice short and positive. The goal is not to hold your puppy still for long periods, but to help them learn that handling is safe and ordinary. You can read the full puppy's first groom guide or see the grooming FAQs.

A Routine That Grows With Your Puppy

As your puppy's adult coat develops, Amber can recommend an appointment schedule, grooming style and home-care routine that suits their breed and your lifestyle. Regular visits help prevent matting and turn grooming into a predictable, reassuring experience rather than a major event. Browse the full grooming services when your puppy is ready for more.
